Las Vegas Sands is currently attempting to buy the upcoming Irving municipal election, flooding our city with dark money to elect their preferred candidates to City Council: David Pfaff, Priscilla Vigiliante, and Tony Grimes.
When it really mattered -- when Sands was trying to slip their preemptive casino zoning through -- these candidates obfuscated and said casinos are a state, not local issue.
David Pfaff even expressed support for the Sands casino project at the February 17 Chamber of Commerce meeting.
All three candidates refused to take a firm stand and contributed to the deception that our local sovereignty/control was not at stake. They waited to see which way the wind blew.
Now that it is politically favorable, and they saw that they would lose the election otherwise, they have changed their positions to favor a local referendum.
But they still lack any firm position or leadership on the issue, unlike their opponents. No wonder Sands wants them elected!
